Kabini National Park

Located in Karnataka, Kabini National Park (or Nagarhole) was the 37th protected area to be included in the Project Tiger programme in 1999. Together with adjoining Bandipur National Park, Mudumalai National Park and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, it forms the Nilgiri Biosphere, the largest protected area in Southern India, totalling 2,183 sq.km. The park gets its name from Naga, meaning snake and hole, referring to  its streams. From rich forest cover and small streams to hills, valleys and waterfalls, the park has it all. This diverse jungle is home to both predators and a host of herbivores, over 270 species of birds and some notable reptilian species too. If there is one place in the world where you have a good chance of seeing the melanistic leopard, it’s in Kabini.
