Named after the Pench River, Pench National Park is 758 sq.km and sits on the southern boundary of Madhya Pradesh, bordering Maharashtra. The famous Nobel laureate Rudyard Kipling penned the famous ‘The Jungle Book’ inspired by the Pench Tiger Reserve and its neighbouring woods. Pench Tiger Reserve has the highest density of herbivores in India, approx. 90.3 animals per sq.km, boasting 39 species of mammals, 13 species of reptiles, 3 species of amphibians, 210 species of birds including several migratory birds and over 1,200 species of plants.
