Tipeshwar WLS

Classified as ‘dry teak bearing forest’, Tipeshwar wildlife sanctuary is a green oasis in the southern part of Maharashtra state, with a total area of 149 sq.km. Situated in the Yavatmal district in the Vidharbha region of Maharashtra, the main portion of its forest constitutes the dry teak bearing forests. The park’s avian community is an important component of the forest ecosystem, a checklist of 158 birds species belonging to 46 families was observed here, of which 129 were resident, 12 were local migrant and 17 were migrant. The favourable ecological conditions like availability of food, wetlands and roosting places are what makes this park so attractive to birds, however it is now also gaining popularity due to its frequent tiger sightings.
