Named after the legendary Englishman, Edward James "Jim" Corbett, Jim Corbett National Park is situated in the northern state of Uttarakhand at altitudes of 1,300-1,400ft. It is the oldest National Park in the country and was established in 1936 by Corbett himself, for conservation of the decreasing Bengal tiger population in the country. The forest is mostly dense, moist deciduous forest, which is home to approximately 110 tree species, 50 mammalian species, 25 reptilian species and a whopping 580 bird species. Probably the best forest experience in the entire country, its highlight is the diversity in its landscapes, the park is a 520 sq.km paradise of hills, riverine belts, marshy depressions, grasslands and a large lake.
